In Nashik city, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has gathered more than 200,000 Ganapati idols donated by devotees during the Ganapati immersion on Anant Chaturdashi. Additionally, the NMC has collected 177 tonnes of puja waste to prevent river pollution. The NMC encourages eco-friendly Ganapati immersion by asking devotees to donate idols rather than immerse them in the Godavari river. The NMC has designated 80 locations in the city for idol immersion, including 27 natural spots along the Godavari river and its tributaries. Artificial ponds have been set up at 53 locations in six divisions of the city for easy immersion. Devotees can also take a dip in the river or ponds before donating their idols to the NMC. This year, the NMC collected 5,000 more idols than the previous year, totaling around 79,000 idols in the Panchavati division and 45,000 in the Nashik Road division. The rest were collected from the Nashik East, Nashik West, Satpur, and Cidco divisions. Staff and volunteers were stationed at all immersion spots to assist devotees with idol and puja waste disposal.
